New Liquid Acetaminophen Concentration

On December 22, 2011, the FDA announced that a new liquid acetaminophen concentration (160 mg/5 mL) is now available. To improve accurate dosing and reduce the likelihood of over/under- dosing, old concentrations of liquid acetaminophen for infants (80 mg /0.8 mL or 80 mg/mL) have been taken off of the market and replaced with the new concentration.

It may take some time until all of the old concentrations have been removed from store shelves. Anytime you are giving your child medicine (any medicine), BE SURE TO READ THE CONCENTRATION, DOSING RECOMMENDATIONS, AND INGREDIENTS. Be sure to consult your child’s healthcare provider before giving ANY medication.
